Trenworks has installed grab bars in Ontario bathrooms since 2012, several thousand of them, from Toronto condos to farmhouses in the Kawarthas. This page explains what we install, how we anchor it so it holds when it matters, what it costs, and how the visit works. If you already know what you need, text us two photos and we will quote it today.
What we install
- Brushed stainless steel grab bars in 18-inch and 24-inch lengths, straight or L-shaped, with a diamond-knurled grip that stays sure when wet. Covered end caps, no exposed screw heads, no rust. Rated for 500 lb.
- Where they go: a vertical bar at the tub or shower entry for stepping in, an angled or horizontal bar on the back wall for lowering and rising, bars beside the toilet, and anywhere else you reach for support, such as a hallway or beside the bed.
- Bathroom safety accessories fitted on the same visit: toilet safety rails, hand-held shower wands with a grab bar mount, anti-slip treatment for the tub floor, and bath benches.
Why the anchoring matters more than the bar
A grab bar screwed into drywall will hold a towel and fail under body weight. Most bathroom walls give no access to studs where a bar actually needs to be, which is why store-bought bars come with wood screws nobody can use. Our installers carry the anchoring systems for each surface: ceramic tile as standard, porcelain, marble and granite with the extra drilling they need, concrete and block, fiberglass and acrylic surrounds, and a WingIts anchor on drywall. Every penetration is sealed against water, so the bar goes exactly where your hand reaches, not where a stud happens to be.
How the visit works
- Photos first. Send two pictures of the tub or shower. We recommend the bars and placement and confirm the price before anything is booked. No sales visit.
- The walkthrough. On the day, before any drilling, the installer shows the bars and confirms each position for how you actually move. If the bars are for a parent, we work with them directly.
- One visit, one to three hours, depending on how many bars and the wall surface. Bars are ready to use 12 hours later, once the sealant has set.
- Cleanup. Dust and packaging leave with the installer. Condos and apartments are booked on weekday mornings and everything comes up on a single cart.
Grab bar installation cost
Every installation is quoted from your photos before it is booked, with the current promotion of up to 60% off installation already applied. Three things set the price: how many bars, the wall surface, and whether drywall anchors are needed. Porcelain, marble or granite tile and hollow-wall anchoring take more work than ceramic tile, and that is stated in the quote, never added on the day. Bar and installation are always priced together, and two or more bars are quoted as one job. Seniors and people eligible for the Disability Tax Credit can often recover part of the cost through the federal Home Accessibility Tax Credit; see free and funded grab bars for seniors in Ontario for that and the other programs.
Warranty
Every grab bar Trenworks installs carries a five-year parts and labour warranty. The team is fully insured with liability and WSIB coverage.
Grab bars with a bathtub step cutout
If stepping over the tub wall is the real problem, a bathtub step cutout removes it in a single three-hour visit without replacing the tub, and the installation includes a free grab bar. That service lives on our sister site, Trenworks BathCutter.

Grab bar installation: common questions
Can grab bars be installed on tile, fiberglass or drywall?
Yes. Ceramic tile is the standard surface. Porcelain, marble and granite need harder drilling and carry a surcharge. Fiberglass and acrylic surrounds and drywall are anchored with hardware made for hollow walls, such as a WingIts anchor, and sealed against water.
Do grab bars have to be screwed into studs?
No. Studs are rarely where a bar needs to be. Professional anchoring systems hold 500 lb in tile, hollow walls and concrete without a stud behind them, which is why the bar can go where your hand actually reaches.
How much does it cost to have a grab bar installed?
It depends on how many bars, the wall surface and whether drywall anchors are needed, so every job is quoted from two photos of your tub or shower before it is booked. The current promotion takes up to 60% off installation, and the written quote is the final price.
How long does grab bar installation take?
One visit of one to three hours, depending on the number of bars and the wall surface. The bars are ready to use 12 hours later.
Can you install grab bars I bought myself?
Sometimes. Send a photo of the bar and its hardware before you buy. Many store bars only work with the screws in the box, which do not suit tiled or hollow walls. Trenworks bars come with the anchoring for every wall type and the five-year warranty.
Are suction cup grab bars safe?
No. Suction bars are for balance only and can release without warning under body weight. Anyone who needs support getting in or out of a tub or shower needs a bar anchored into the wall.
Do you offer same-day installation?
Often. Once we have your photos and you approve the quote, many installations are scheduled within days, and same-day visits are possible when a crew is nearby.
